The Peter Jackson Diaries 9 - Tauriel

Description

Ah yes, Tauriel... One of the most criticised topics in the Hobbit trilogy.
And yet, I have yet to hear any reasonable thing said against her, because all I've seen so far were some riddiculous accusations that were all rooted in one single "argument" - she is not in the book.
I've seen people call her a mary-sue, but by their "logic", Aragorn, for one, should be shunned as well for those things.
I've seen people claim that she is an Aragorn rip-off, even though there are several major and minor differences between them, both personality, role and backstorywise.
I've seen people call her the JarJarBinks of the trilogy, even though she's as far from that type of character as you can get.
I've seen people complain, how she "adds nothing to the story", even though that can be disproven on several levels.
I've seen people attack Evangelyn Lilly on all sorts of bullshit claims, because her character just wasn't in the book.
And of course, most of those people always state that "You know, I'm not a purist, but..." and "It's not because she wasn't in the book, but... she wasn't in the book", and yet, once you peel away all these riddiculous claims, the only card they have left is the "not in the book" one, over and over again. It always comes down to this - if it's not from Tolkien, then it's worthless and deserves all the hatred in the world (and in many cases, even if it is from Tolkien himself, it's "trash", because these devoted "fans" don't even realise what the object of their obsession has written..).
And yet, they claim, that "it's not about that", but then how come, that all the complaints raised about her could be raised about other events and characters from Tolkien's original work as well, and yet, those are worshipped like words sent from a God, but the moment it's about her, it's suddenly all bad and terrible and whatnot...
And of course, there's also the variety of "fan", who just states it fair and simple, that "She wasn't in the book, she sucks!... At least more honest then the rest, though not any less foolish.

Watch Peter Jackson battle trolls, critics, purists and all kinds of dangers on his way to turn the Hobbit into a movie!

I think it's fair to say that Sir Peter Jackson is one of the most beloved directors of all time. However, he is also one of the most criticized ones, at least online.

I have to say that I NEVER saw any other director, who was critisized for literally EVERYTHING he ever did, every single little decision he made, as much as Peter Jackson seems to be. (I guess that makes him the Anti-Nolan in that aspect...)
But I guess that's what you get, when you make films for one of the most unsatisfiable of fandoms, and of course, when you make something THIS BIG and THIS SUCCESSFULL, then you get trolls and know-it-all-critics comming out of the woodwork too, so that's another thing...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that everyone who dares to dislike something is a troll or an idiot - but there were quite some "complaints" that I saw online that made me headdesk pretty hard...

NOTE: All complaints and critics potrayed in this series actually come from REAL comments I encountered online...
Yes, that means some people really said these things... But you know, what they say: You can only parody smart people - with stupid ones, it's enough to quote them...

This is hilarious and very on-point. I’m also tempted to start saying “I shit thee nay” lol
